Last weekend we went up to the sinks with Daren's family. The sinks are big open fields and huge hills to go sledding on. We took the snowmobiles up and about a million sleds and tubes. It was 60 degrees and we were going to play in the snow...didn't seem right to me but oh well. Luckily, it was so nice that we didn't even really need to wear coats. I even got a little sun on my face.
Things were going pretty well at first. The kids were having a great time! They loved sledding, going on rides on the sleds, and being pulled on the back of them too. Tom and Dominick, Jen's oldest son, took the sleds out for a ride and were gone for a pretty long time. Most of us were in the trailer eating lunch when all of sudden we see a ton of smoke...more than normal. Makayla comes running over and tells Daren his sled is on fire. Daren runs over to the sled that was smoking. Sure enough...a small fire was being put out by Dominick and a couple of the other kids. Turns out it was James' sled BUT Daren's also caught on fire about 1/4 mile away. Dominick was on his way back to get Daren when the second sled caught on fire. CRAZY!! James' was in worse shape. He has some wiring get fired and the handle you use to start it melted off. Oh and remember how I forgot to put the insurance back on our sled before we went?! OOPS!!
We figure both sleds had been driven with the parking brake on. Both Tom and Daren always put them on when they stop the sleds and didn't even think about mentioning it to Dominick before he took off on them. Dominick had never been on a sled before and would have had no idea something was wrong. Poor kid!!
We had to tow both sleds back into the trailer and pretty much called it a day after that!
Unfortunately, none of the adults really got to have any fun on anything since we were letting the kids have all the fun. But that's okay...I'm not really into snow activities. I was quite content to get some vitamin D and take pictures!
On our way down the canyon, we stopped at the giant snowman by Tony Grove. It was HUGE! As you can see...And it was awesome!
Despite the fires...we actually had a really great time! And luckily the sleds won't be too much money to fix! Thank heavens!
